HP DL580 The original server has four CPUs, 40 total cores, and more than 500 GB of RAM.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Purpose and implementation
I built a virtualization lab on an HP DL580 to work with Linux, server administration, and virtual machines. Proxmox provided the management layer for configuring and running guest operating systems.
Hypervisor and guest systems
I installed Proxmox directly on the server and configured virtual machines with different operating systems. The lab supported practical work in guest configuration, Linux administration, and VM management.
The server provided more than 500 GB of RAM and 40 cores across four CPUs for running multiple guest systems.
Operating cost and current status
The server has four power supplies rated at 1,200 watts each. These ratings describe supply capacity; actual power consumption depends on the system’s load and configuration.
I no longer run this server regularly because of its operating cost. A smaller, more efficient host would be better suited to the lab’s ongoing requirements.
